Well, hello! If you’re reading this, I’m assuming you’re a fan of YAMS The Playlist. You’re a fan of R&B music, and at some point over the past two years, you joined me on this ride to spotlight R&B music. Maybe it was on our Instagram or Twitter accounts, or maybe it was right here on Substack.
What started as a way to make sure the R&B that I love was being properly showcased (in a time when few were showcasing R&B) turned into a viral sensation with over 400,000 followers across social media. We’ve developed series like Yam Sessions, where the likes of Kenyon Dixon, Dawn Richard, and Dante Bowe have performed. We’ve interviewed music legends like Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. We’ve received love from people like SZA, Kelly Rowland, and Usher. We have our first show coming up at SXSW in a couple of weeks.
My goal with YAMS was always to have it become something that reached beyond social media. But social media was (and still is!) the foundation that needed to be laid to get to this point. There’s only so much you can say with an Instagram caption or a TikTok video. Sometimes, long-form is the answer.
So here we are! YAMS Magazine is our new digital magazine presence, which we will build right here on Substack. We’ve been soft-launching for the past few months, but this is a hard HELLO!
Expect everything you’d want from a magazine from here on out (but be patient with us as we grow and figure things out). Cover shoots are coming (the debut cover launches today). Interviews and deep dives are coming. Fun content with your favorite R&B singers is coming. Guest columns are coming!
Stay tuned and make sure you subscribe! If you’ve already subscribed, tell a friend to subscribe. Thank you Yamily! ❤️🍠
Congratulations Dante!! This is huge ❤️🔥
